Mother’s day 2009
I am single. Never been attached. Self confessed virgin.
Irrelevant tagline for a mother’s day article? I beg to disagree. Read my story and discover the reason behind my sentiment.
I woke up and saw my mom feeding my lola— the usual Quaker oat meal, papaya slices, putong Tanauan, and Anlene milk. (This is a free ad. ^_^)
After a while I heard my mom greet my lola “Happy Mother’s day!”
My lola replied “Thank you!”
My mom said “Aba, tama ang sagot mo ah.”
As I ate my breakfast, I said “La, hindi pa pala kita nababati… ‘Happy Mother’s day, La!’”
My lola answered “same to you!”
“Ano lola?” I exclaimed as I heard my mom laugh out loud. Of course I also laugh ( after I made a deep sigh).
Then I remembered the previous night’s frolics:
Hindi ko babatiin si inay bukas ng “Happy Mother’s day!” my tatay said
“Bakit?” we asked.
He said “Baka kasi sumagot si Inay ng same to you, hindi naman ako mother.“
We laughed.
And on mother’s day we laughed more.
Yeah right, lola tend to give wrong answers these past months and it was my fate to be answered with “same to you”.
Our mother’s day celebration included laughing and re-enacting lola’s answer to my greeting (for the benfit of my father and brother). It was definitely mother’s day— my lola’s day.
Red Ginger
It is Flores de Mayo here in the Philippines. I will feature some flowers grown (but not really native) in the Philippines, specifically those found in Laguna and Batangas.
The flower attraction for this week is the Red Ginger.

- Red Ginger has lanceolate leaves measuring from 7.5 to 15 cm
The Red Ginger (Alpinia purpurata) is also called Ostrich Plume and Pink Cone Ginger. It is a perennial plant with small white flowers found on top of the red bracts. The bracts and the lanceolate green leaves tend to be more brightly colored if well-watered and grown on shady area but if exposed to the sun the bracts become lighter pink and the leaves slightly yellowish. The new shoots of red ginger plant grows at the bottom of the matured bracts and is propagated through division. The flower and bract of red ginger tend to be longer if planted directly on the soil and smaller if planted on pots.
Red ginger may be grown indoors and the flowers used in arrangements.
Pencil

Pencil. Scribble with it, draw with it, ponder with it.
Pencil. It is the writing material we used in scribbling our first ABCs and 123s and in sketching our masterpiece drawings. The pencil made writting less complicated because the rubber eraser attached on it can be used in rubbing out the mistakes we made which in turn make our penmanship more legible and our draft more clean.
Grab a pencil while you read the following thoughts.
A pencilmaker told the pencil five important lessons:
First, Everything you do will always leave mark.
Second, You can always correct the mistakes you have made.
Third, What is important is what is inside you.
Fourth, In life you will undergo painful sharpenings which will make you a better pencil.
Fifth and the most important, To be the best pencil you can be, you must allow yourself to be held and guided by the hand that holds you.
If you can not be a pencil to write anyone’s happines, then at least try to be a nice rubber to erase everyone’s sorrow.
The pencil offers more than being a writting material, it is a companion in pondering thoughts. ^_^
